The case being brought by Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan is about fairness and equality for all members of society - its fundamental emphasis is the respect of the rights and obligations of both married and non-married people to share their lives in an atmosphere of social and economic stability.
Although their case calls for the State's recognition of their valid Canadian marriage, the implications of such recognition are far-reaching for partnership legislation in Ireland.
To coincide with the first day of the KAL Case hearing in the High Court, a Gathering of Support will take place on Tuesday, 3rd October at 1:45pm (assembling at 1:30pm) outside Dáil Éireann. All are welcome!
The Gathering is being held to show support for real equality and for the recognition of diversity of relationships and families in Ireland.
Fundraising events and donations are crucial to the KAL Case: Expert witness costs and administrative outlays are being paid by the proceeds of fundraisers and by the generous donations of supporters. Without this support, the KAL Case would be badly undermined.
To that end, fundraising events are very important to us. In addition, particularly for those who may not be in a postition to attend fundraisers, donations may be made to the KAL PayPal account or directly to the KAL fundraising bank account.
